Ive always loved Adam's work, whether its good or not. Last night, I went to go see this and I was in utter DISBELIEF that it was really Adam. He was so convincing that I have to watch this movie again. He deserves an Oscar. So interesting to hear about the intertwined genealogy of these different projects. Specifically ARNO, played by Eric Bogosian. Money problems continue to mount for Howard. But as is the case w/delusional gamblers he believes the rare Ethiopian opal is his lotto ticket to freedom. He takes what little cash he’s stowed away and places a high-stakes wager on the Boston Celtics. This includes side bets on Center Kevin Garnett during the 2010 NBA playoffs vs Philadelphia. Garnett is infatuated with the ROCK after seeing the gemstone up close during a tour of Howard’s shop. He believes it’s good luck and wants to purchase it. Howard tells him the stone is to be auctioned off and could be worth millions. Ratner allows Garnett to keep it as a lucky charm for one night. Howard's real problems begin when the opal is valued far less by the official auction appraiser. Kudo's to KG in his role. For a man who never had an acting lesson, it's remarkable how authentic he comes across. Uncut Gems is a gritty-no nonsense art house flick. Violent at times. My only complaint was the filthy dialogue. The constant f-bombs were unnecessary. The script seems to stereotype its characters, making them seem uneducated and mentally nimble. Uncut Gems is offset by superb character acting. Judd Hirsch makes a cameo. Turning in a nice performance. Hirsch is a pragmatic family member trying to help Howard. Conversely, Arno is also a family member who is nothing more than a back stabbing debt collector wanting to hurt Howard via 2 thug lieutenants. Betting scene at the end with Howard locking them in is so visceral and exciting followed by a swift and brutal end to this crazy ride

Score is fantastic and rises the constant tension that we see on screen paired with the shaky up close shots that make you feel uncomfortable

Adam Sandler as Howard is great as he disappears into the role and becomes this degenerate gambler who we go on a roller coaster ride with

Julia Fox is also very good as Julia, Howard's side chick

Howard is a jeweler who owes a lot of people a lot of money but keeps making bets and going deeper and deeper into debt

Directed and written so well and the film feels so real and electric

The score is so incredible and one of the best of the year, so much tension

Film is fast paced and clenching throughout

Watch a man just get beat down by life over and over again but he is the one making bad decisions

Would recommend to anyone who can take the tension, one of the best films of the year

I've just watched this movie and i think the child in the ending whom parents killed by a clown is BATMAN! As if that's what it says in the movie. This was so awesome hearing Adam talk about his issue with crying. I have that same issue. I used to cry as a child when I was sad but as I grew up it just went away and my wife would tell me I was dead inside. Slowly the ability came back as my children got older and I started to get emotional about them leaving the home. Just nice to know others had this problem.
